An Open Letter To All Our Clubs

Dear everyone,

On behalf of all of us at The Sussex Disability Football League I would like to welcome you to the 2019/20 season. May it be one of excitement and skill, of enjoyment and development and played in a safe, respectful and inclusive environment.

This will be the 11th season of the SDFL and since its inception it has seen a continued growth in participation, while also witnessing a strengthening of its aims and ethos. The clubs, as I have said many times before, are the bedrock of all that is good about match-days at Culver Road. You have embraced our Respect campaign in a truly wonderful manner. Most of you now have your own codes of conduct and all encourage your coaches and welfare officers to take full responsibility for players and team matters on the day. The way we all come together, once a month, to play on the same day is unique among other leagues and the way you go about it is remarkable.

Youth
Our youth section is developing very nicely and its an absolute pleasure to watch the talents youth players each month. We have some exciting new plans for the youth section and we cannot wait to share this with you, so watch this space…

Adults
There will be a few noticeable changes for this Sunday. After seeking and receiving feedback from coaches and players, all 7 a side matches will be 20 minutes in duration and the 9 v 9 fixtures will be 45 minutes in length.

The day itself will be longer than usual and because of this we can reduce our number of small sided pitches to 3. It is hoped that this will make things a little less frenetic and allow for a warm-up area in the space created by having one less pitch.

Thank you for all you do in working so hard in creating, offering and giving people opportunities in disability football. It’s very cool. Looking forward to catching up with everyone very soon.

Best wishes, Steve (Chairman)
